Children's Programming at the NLCL
Story Time
There are two regularly-scheduled story times at the library: Wednesday mornings at 10:00 AM and Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM. Morning story time is geared towards preschool-aged children. Wednesday evening's story time is for all ages.
Andrew Frisbie, North Liberty's youth and teen services librarian, engages kids on Wednesday mornings with stories, songs, finger plays and a take-home craft. Melanie Stewart is our assistant youth and teen services librarian, and she leads the evening story times.

Summer Reading Program
We had over 300 kids complete the summer reading program and earn their T-shirts this summer. We averaged over 200 kids attending the Tuesday morning programs. For preschoolers we count minutes read to or with, and they read 71500 minutes total over the summer. The grade school kids read 5179 books over the summer.
Our funding for programming came from a grant from Target, so thanks to Target.
The shirts were sponsored by Hills Bank and made by Rage Grafix.
Thanks to everyone who participated. Thanks to the schools for letting us come in and tell the kids about the summer reading program. Thanks to North Liberty Television for taping the programs. Thanks to Chili’s in Coralville and The Playstation in Cedar Rapids for their gift certificates. Thanks to Hills Bank for the kick-off party in May.
Great job reading and we look forward to next summer’s program.
For six weeks each summer, area children of all ages can participate in the NLCL's Summer Reading. Every year there is a new theme for the program, with weekly group activities to entertain and educate youngsters. Children keep reading logs to track books they devour on their own time, and all participants receive a free t-shirt. Preschool-aged kids can join in by keeping track of what their parents read to them. Kids in first through sixth grades can come to the weekly structured programs.
The youth Summer Reading Program usually begins in mid-June and is complete at the end of July. Participants and their families can enjoy the annual Summer Reading Program Finale, where top readers are recognized, there's special entertainment and free food for everyone!
